The 2018 Festival will saw participants from over 100 countries and hosted more than 160 global luminaries and 400 exhibitors.
As part of the festival, PortfolioQuest, a leading transformation training provider for the banking industry, partnered with SmartUp – the award-winning knowledge-sharing platform – to run the FinTalent competition.

1. The Vision

The main aim of the FinTalent competition was to drive engagement in FinTech and to position Singapore as a hub of innovation in the region. Students from the polytechnics in Singapore took part – with the ultimate goal to mentor and engage them with the industry. There were four main objectives:

  • Identify and nurture talent: The competition was free for anyone to join, as long as they had an interest in FinTech. Upskill anyone who has an interest in finance and fintech.
  • Promote Fintech: Enable commercial partners, such as First Data and NEM Foundation, to provide accessible and scalable thought leadership.
  • Create a digital library: Grow the world’s largest FinTech digital library

2. The Solution

PortfolioQuest partnered with SmartUp to host the competition on their knowledge-sharing platform.
The month-long competition comprised of three key elements:

  • Gamified mobile learning on SmartUp’s platform
  • FinTech learning content from industry thought leaders in snappy bite-sized online learning
  • Leaderboard competition where students read, engage and answer FinTech questions to move up the rankings.

3. The Results and Student Reactions

The competition achieved record-breaking engagement:

  • 460+ participants
  • 85% students
  • 90% completion rate
  • 5,500+ content items viewed.

Here is what the students had to say!
“I like the articles that were written before the quiz to give us an in-depth on the different topics of finance and IT. Some of the articles have provided me valuable information on topics I would never find out on my own.”

“I enjoyed doing all the quizzes and the fact that we can win prizes from doing it. It allowed me to broaden my knowledge on the current financial technology and future plans for it.”

“The content and articles provided interest me as it was very informative and found the topics very relevant to the course of my study. I was also able to gain deeper knowledge in the various topics relating to the financial industry’s past, present and future. Overall, I enjoyed the whole learning experience.”

And the PortfolioQuest team:

“The FinTalent Competition demonstrated that micro-learning can boil down and convey technical topics to a broad audience.  The magic comes from the combination of the gamification and snappy format”.

“Our team learned about Byte Size learning from the SmartUp team who have it down to a science.  Whether you insource or outsource the content development, following their guidance results in 90%+ engagement rates.”

“The SmartUp platform has more power than many will even tap into.  For example, the user analytic dashboard is easy to use and very powerful.  Human Capital forensics is a powerful troubleshooting and evaluation tool, not yet leveraged by most organizations”
