This could cost me my job.
The art of content chunking in order to create microlearning is super simple. In fact, lots of people have been doing it for decades. Remember cue cards? Well, SmartUp has made it even more fun with gamification features like quizzes, polls, and leaderboards.
In this post, I’m going to show you how to convert an article into microlearning and, how to gamify it so your content is not only more engaging but also gives you helpful data insights.

There’s No Shame In Copy & Paste

If the material already belongs to you, don’t be afraid to copy the text from source and paste it into SmartUp’s authoring tool. The work, however, does not stop at the pasting.
Always be sensitive to how your reader’s eyes take in all that text onscreen. If it looks overwhelming to you, chances are you need to perform a bit of editing.

After editing:

Pacing your content through the use of spacings and line breaks enables your mind to take in information and hold onto it better.
Feel free to bold your text or italicise it for additional emphasis.

Pictures Are Oases In The Desert Plains Of Text

65 percent of the population are visual learners so images are key to engaging people at learning.
According to Dr. Lynell Burmark, an education consultant who writes and speaks about visual literacy: “…unless our words, concepts, ideas are hooked onto an image, they will go in one ear, sail through the brain, and go out the other ear. Images, on the other hand, go directly into long-term memory where they are indelibly etched.”
Although it may sometimes be a pain to locate a good image or build an infographic, the effectiveness of such content cannot be denied. At SmartUp, we use the Image cards in a number of ways:

Gamifying Your Content For Engagement & Insights

The best part about using SmartUp’s authoring tool to design learning content is that it gives you the ability insert quizzes and polls.
Quizzes serve as a good tool to promote spaced repetitions and recall. You can use a quiz to not only test knowledge but also to challenge pre-conceived notions.

SmartUp’s quiz cards are a differentiator when it comes to points. Getting a quiz correct scores you 50 points – and this could really drive up your ranking on the leaderboard.
Polls, on the other hand, lets you survey your readers for their sentiments on a topic. You could insert a poll after talking about a new policy or poll your readers at the start and at the end of a piece of content to track if you’ve managed to change their opinions at all.

SmartUp’s Content Tool Is The Future Of Knowledge Sharing

Peer-to-peer knowledge sharing is the new reality in learning.
Harvard Business School professor Heidi Gardner’s research demonstrated clearly that collaboration pays. Companies whose employees collaborate across functional boundaries earn higher margins, inspire greater client loyalty, and attract and retain the best talents.
Research shows that about 80% of workforce learning happens via on-the-job interaction with peers. SmartUp’s content tool not only gives everyone with an access to a community the ability to contribute to the knowledge ecosystem, it also lets peers collaborate with one another so experiences and insights can cross-pollinate.
Moderns learners report just spending 1% of their time at work on learning. It is therefore a challenge to create content that encourages active participation and completion, without shortchanging on information absorption.
SmartUp can absolutely help organisations meet this challenge. Find out more about our platform and the companies who have used us and absolutely love us.
